We are all one

10 Oct

I got an email this morning. It was from this guy in Asia. He was writing to thank me for a video I posted a while back on youtube.com about Lawerence King’s death. In the email he also talked about his frustrations of being gay and living in a society where it isn’t accepted. He wished me the best of luck and that was that…or is it?

Gay kids are everywhere! But I know where he’s coming from. When you’re in the closet, coming out or even looking for support can be terrifying. You feel alone and you can feel that no one will understand. The truth is, you’re not alone and we understand where you’re at.

The internet is possibly the safest way to learn about our community and other members from the GLBT. There are online gay chatrooms reserved for gay people of all ages. Youtube, for example, has tons of members who are gay. Internet celebrities like William Sledd, Matthew Lush and myself are all out and proud gay men who make videos about topics like coming out and being gay and tons more. The point that I’m trying to make here is, in order for you to feel accepted is to do something about it. The more you learn about the world around you the better appreciation you’ll have for yourself.

A few words of caution. Never give out personal information like your phone number, your full real name or address; you’re looking for support not a stalker. Also remember, especially when dealing with chatrooms, that even though your intentions may be innocent, the guy you’re chatting with may have other motives – so be smart. Remember, only you can protect yourself so please be smart and be safe!
