Day trip to Artscape – Stop Animation Photography Project

30 Aug

test1 065

This is my friend Sojin while working on a Stop-Animation Project for an upcoming coming Exhibit.  Machine has a video camera suspended at the center and shoots directly over a lighted based.

I’m curious to know how the Film Camera operates with computers. The machine is hooked up to a Mac G5 (I think).

test1 067There was another artist working the day I arrived at Artscapes. He too was working on his own Stop Animation but instead of photographs, he was painting directly onto glass films. When he let me see a preview of the clips I was amazed to see that the blobs of paint would swirl and dance in circles. It reminded me of schools of orange and yellow fish swimming in circles. I got nostalgic watching the preview of great chartoons like Fantasia, Dumbo, and Alice in Wonderland.

Laws of Attraction: Vision Board Video

30 Aug

One of my Youtube viewers left a comment basically telling me how to make a vlog. I’ve posted below the comments back and forth between us:

People make vlogs and they forgot that their audience doesn’t know the details that would make the vlog interesting. For example explaining WHY they decided to make a vision board and/or what it means for the personal development might have been nice. And sometimes people don’t realize that including information like this would make their vlogs more interesting/entertaining to watch for their audience.
would you like me to do a series on vision boards? and if so, maybe you could email a bunch of questions you’d like for me to answer. Actually sounds like a pretty good idea. You in?

I’m also ready to listen to anyone who has some insight on improving what I do as a blog/vlogger. To recieve a comment like this from an experienced and more successful Vlogger is a great opportunity to finally get better. Vlogging and blogging is definitely not for someone who wants to be famous for the sake of being famous. That’s what faceboook, twitter and dare I say Myspace are for. There’s a fasination that I have for the Internet world and the people who have done really well on it. It’s a lot of hard work and the slaps in the face from viewers can be overwhelming.

He has replied back yet but I hope he does. In the meantime, check out my latest video:

vision board pt2 023

Yesterday I spent the day searching every used bookstore in the GTA looking for magazines for my vision board. I’ve set up challenges for myself to make this a little more fun. No magazine will cost more than a dollar. And, each magazine that I buy must have at least 5 pictures I will use on the board.

Before you begin, know what you want! Because a vision boards activates the Laws of Attraction, it is important to know exactly what you want. For me, there is no other dream than to be a published writer. I wake up each day vision board pt2 021thinking of things to write about and I go to sleep with the hopes that an idea will shine through a dream.

I’m representing my passion for writing by gluing on the pages of Alice Munro’s Friend of my youth. She is one of Canada’s legendary writer’s and three-time winner of Canada’s Governor General’s Award for fiction. I’ve glued approximately 271 pages to the canvas, covering every white space. The canvas has taken on a solid, paper surface. When it’s time to start gluing the pictures of other parts of my life I want to see the words from each page pop out.

The other day, I started ripping out pages from a collection of magazines. Some are pictures of food , photos of adoption families, beautiful rooms, couples, nice clothes etc. But I have to say that now that I’ve completed the backdrop all these things really don’t reflect who I am or what I want. Yes, I do want to adopt and have a family but do I really care if I have fancy clothes or mansion? These are some of things you should think about when creating your own vision board: What do you really want? A Million dollars is only a million dollars until you spend a dollar – after that you’re no longer a millionaire but a dude with a lot of money. What really matters? Happiness does. I know where ever I live it’ll be beautiful because I have great taste. Do what I love makes me happy. For a long time, I thought that in order to be happy one must be secure financially. True it’s a peace of mind having money in the bank but it certainly won’t make you happy in the long run. Money comes and money will stay when you do what makes you happy.

Books I’m reading: Drama Queers

18 Aug

Ever since Mrs. Malloy assigned us the What I Want To Be When I Grow Up paper earlier that year in her 1st hour English, my mind had been made up… I, Bradley James Dayton, will be a famous actor someday!

Meet Bradley Dayton—a wickedly funny high school senior whose woefully uncool life always seems to be full of drama, even in the sorry little suburb of Hazel Park, Michigan. It’s 1987, the era of big hair, designer jeans, and Dirty Dancing. George Michael has “Faith” and Michael Jackson still has a nose. Brad, on the other hand, has a thing for acting, and while his friends are trying to get laid, Brad’s trying to land the lead in Okla-homo! and practicing the Jane Seymour monologue from Somewhere in Time.

Sure, he’d like to get laid too, but while Brad has known he was gay forever, the rest of “Hillbilly High” is not so forthcoming. Brad’s already lost one best friend, Jack, who dropped out of marching band to step into the closet. But lately, things are looking up. Not only has Brad made Homecoming Top Five, but Richie, a new, totally cute member of drama club, definitely seems to be sending signals—and he’s not the only one. Before senior year ends, Brad will know more about love, lust, and friendship than he ever thought possible. Because if all the world’s a stage, he’s ready to be in the spotlight.

Day 2 on the Smokers’ Cleanse

18 Aug

smokers cleanse 002Last night I cheated. This morning a cheated. But the cheating is so different than any other time I’ve ever tried to quit smoking. First off, I can’t stand morning cigarettes right now. The head rush is so painful and the sick feeling in my stomach is so intense that I immediately butt out the damn thing. After 8pm smoking is almost barely but after an entire day of not smoking I was willing to take my chances. Oddly, even though I hadn’t smoke at all day I couldn’t finish the cigarette.

Regarding curving the cravings: Smokers’ Cleanse did I really good job and I was comfortable for most of the day. There were times when I did want a cigarette but nothing compared to cold turkey. The only trouble I have right now if keeping distracted. When I sit in front of the computer researching or writing that’s when I crave the most. I’m working through the cravings but I have cheated already a couple of times. What I tell myself is that I’m still getting used to the cleanse and that things are going to take time. I document when I do cheat on my blackberry. This is a great habit to get into as it tells me either what to avoid or when I should prepare myself.

I have a strong feeling that I’m going to have to quit drinking coffee. Oh my, I dread the thought! My mornings are shit when I don’t have cream for my coffee. I can’t imagine what NO coffee is going to do to me. The reason why I think I should quit drinking is for no other reason then coffee REALLY makes me want a cigarette!

Vision Board PT1

Some of you who have been following me on Twitter would have noticed that I’ve been chanting the Laws of Attraction. No, I haven’t turned into a New Age preist, I’ve basically started working on my vision board. The concept of the vision board (also known as a goal board, goal map, or treasure map) has been around for generations, but it’s gained a renewed interest and popularity after success expert John Assaraf related his story of using vision boards to achieve his dreams in the best-selling DVD documentary The Secret. Basically what it is, it’s a board with all the things you want, who you want to be, and things you’d like to happen to you.

What you will need to create your own Vision Board:

vision board 008

1)  A collection of magazines. Get as many as you can so you have a variety of images and favorite quotes.

2) Glue

3)  Ruler and Pencil

4) Canvas/bristel board to glue your images onto.

 5) A Vision –

What I’m finding interest about working on my own board is how much I don’t know about what I want. I always thought I had an idea of my hopes and dreams but when I started this project I found myself limited. Some things were easy to spot out, Adoption = pictures of children, or, books to represent my dreams of becoming a published writer. But there are other things I want as well like Travelling, a beauitful home, nice clothes and amazing tasting food. As I flipped through the magazines I realized that life is long and there’s so much I want from it. There are also things I thought I wanted but when I found pictures of them, I decided that they weren’t important enough to put on my vision board.

Next week I’ll be done my vision board and I will post pictures of it on my blog. In the mean time, check out my video. If you have worked on a vision board please feel free to post a comment about your experience and what you learned. It would be awesome hearing from you.
