Daily Requirements

14 Oct

I know, most of you already know that to-do lists are like crack to me and I know that I’ve mentioned this before. But all good things are worth talking about. Daily Requirements!

What is it? Basically it’s a list of things that are important to you that you want to get done in a day. Here’s a list of my Daily Requirements:

1) Social                        2)Home

3) Work/Career          4)Creativity

5) Learn                       6)Spirituality

7) Health

Not too much work in a day but there are days in the week when one of these will get missed.

So what do I do with this list?

Simple, first you need to define the areas of your life that needs attention. For example: House work has always been something that if I don’t make a priority it just won’t get done. So under the “Home” section of my list this is where I’d put it. Also, let’s see there’s a repair that needs to get done, or the kitchen cupboards need to be reorganized this is where I’d put it. In the notes section of my list I’ll sometimes list the important things so I don’t forget.

What do the categories in your list mean to you?

Again, I think it’s pretty simple but I’ll be more than happy to explain this.

Social: whether I’m meeting friends for drinks or making a new friend, this is what this category means. I know, it’s crazy…why make a category for socializing? Because, a lot of us don’t make it a priority to be friendly or make or maintain our friendships. Dating is another important social activity that fall into this category. Again, I’ll make a special note regarding how I’m socializing.

Home: Almost explained what this category is but there’s also the bill paying, saving account…basically this section brings importance to the health of my home. It’s highlights how important it is to go grocery shopping, dust behind the sofa, make a home cooked meal etc. Living in a busy city like Toronto it is so easy to get caught up in the moment and let things slide. I believe that in order to shine respect one must have respect.

Creativity: How so many people ignore the importance of creativity in their life. Having a blog, and my youtube channel keep me very creative and social but did you know that cooking and baking is a form of creativity? Or writing a letter to a friend could be creative. Oh yes. It’s all there my friend…just open your mind and let will be be. 🙂

Learn: When we’re done school and join the rat race some people get used to routines and stop learning. A routine, doing the same thing day in and day out is good but it also stops the learning process. So how does one start learning? Good question, in some cases to ask a question is to already know the answer. Is there something you missing in your life that needs attention but you don’t have a clear idea as to what it is? Taking notes or journaling is a great way to find out what you need to learn. Whether I’m sitting in the library or out with a friend having lunch, there’s always a pen and paper near by. Something new might be said and I don’t want to forget it or may want to look into it later.

Work/Career: Are you happy doing the job you have? Is there a way of doing it better? Or maybe it’s time you tried something else. Basically this section explores and reports where you are in your career. It’s also a great spot to add information you found out about that could improve the flow of work. Anything, that gives you the step up in your job this is the section to put it in.

Health: You know what goes in this category right? Whether you lift weights or do yoga you need to keep a log of progress. How you performed this week may be the solution to your success next week. Track how you’re feeling, are you eating enough? Sleeping enough? Are you on track? Write it down!

Spirituality: It doesn’t matter if you believe in God or not. Spirituality is your key to your soul and it connects you to the rest of the world. When your soul is sick the whole world shifts and things just don’t feel right. This is the category that’s easiest to overlook. How does one connect with their soul without looking or sounding all hippy? Well for me it’s cooking. I love the smell of a kitchen in operation. The sound of bubbling boiling water or the sizzle of bacon frying make me really happy. Did I mention my true love the egg? OMG, seriously nothing makes me happier than a good cooked egg. When I cook I feel like God. What can you say in your life that makes you feel that way? Did I mention music is an amazing way to connect to your soul? Yup give it a try.

Here’s something that connects me to my soul:

So how do you store all this information? There’s several ways. One option is a regular notebook, some people are using smartphones like the Iphone or are saving them in their computer. What ever you use make sure it’s handy and easy to use.

What I could start doing is posting some of my daily requirements for you to see. Let me know what you think about that?
